Pennsylvania Railroad's huge fleet of H21a 4-Bay Hoppers were some of the most common coal hoppers in North America. Bowser brings this iconic freight car to HO Scale. Constructed as H21 quad hoppers between 1911 and 1917 these hoppers became a PRR standard for hauling coal and coke with over 36,000 built by the railroad. During their lives some were sold off to other railroads including the B&O class W1, N&W, Union Railroad and VGN, affiliates and successor PC. Originally built with clamshell doors they had them replaced during upgrading in the 1930s and 1940s. Other cars were modified for special service such has hauling coke. The cars lasted into the 1960s and a few remained in work train service into the 1980s. The H21 and H21a were some of the most common coal hoppers in North America, so they'll look right at home on your steam- or early diesel-era layout. Ready-to-run H21a Hoppers from Bowser come equipped with knuckle couplers, metal wheels and feature authentic paint schemes.
